about us
Steps to Learning Without Social Barriers Inc.
At Steps to Learning Without Social Barriers Inc., known in Spanish as Pasos Para el Aprendizaje Sin Obstáculos Sociales, we are committed to breaking down the barriers that prevent individuals from accessing quality education. Our organization was founded on the belief that every person — regardless of income, background, or circumstance — has the right to learn, grow, and reach their full potential.
We work within our communities to identify the obstacles that hold learners back — whether they are financial, technological, linguistic, or systemic — and replace those barriers with bridges of opportunity. Our efforts focus not only on access to education but also on the empowerment, dignity, and well-being of every learner we serve.

Our Story
From a small dream to a movement for educational inclusion
Our journey began with a simple question: What if every person, regardless of social or economic background, could learn without barriers? From this question came a vision — to build an organization that would bring together educators, families, and communities to make that dream a reality.
Founded in Corozal, Puerto Rico, Steps to Learning Without Social Barriers Inc. was created by individuals who had witnessed firsthand how limited access to education affects lives. We started small — offering tutoring sessions and literacy programs for local families — and have grown into a movement that touches many lives through community centers, teacher training, scholarships, and digital inclusion projects.
Our name reflects our mission: each “step” represents progress — toward equality, empowerment, and lasting change. Every program, every partnership, and every learner’s success story reminds us that progress happens when we move together.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Learning is not a privilege — it’s a right.
We believe that education should never be determined by privilege, status, or circumstance. It is a fundamental human right and the foundation of personal and community development. Our philosophy centers on inclusion, respect, and compassion. We value each learner as an individual with unique strengths, dreams, and potential.
We approach education holistically — understanding that learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. It happens in families, in communities, and in everyday interactions. That’s why our programs emphasize mentorship, digital literacy, social skills, and lifelong learning. We aim to nurture not only minds but also confidence, curiosity, and resilience.
For us, empowerment means giving people the tools to take control of their own learning journey — and helping them believe that their future is within reach.

OUR COMMITMENT
To education, equity, and the future
Our commitment extends beyond programs and events. It’s a lifelong promise to serve, to adapt, and to stand with those who need us most. We will continue to expand our reach, innovate our approach, and build partnerships that make education more inclusive and more impactful than ever.
The work ahead is challenging, but with the support of our community, we know it is possible. Together, we will continue taking steps toward a world without obstacles — a world where learning belongs to everyone.Through our programs, hundreds of learners have gained access to educational resources, mentorship, and technology that have changed their lives. Children have discovered a love for reading, adults have re-entered education, and teachers have gained the skills to reach every student.
Our impact is measured not only in numbers but in the renewed hope we see every day — the confidence of a student who once felt left behind, the gratitude of a family finding support, and the determination of a community moving forward together.
COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT PROJECTS
Strengthening Communities Through Knowledge and Collaboration
We believe that education thrives best in communities that are strong, connected, and empowered. Our Community Empowerment Projects aim to build resilience by involving families, local leaders, and social organizations in the learning process.Through workshops, mentorship programs, and family literacy initiatives, we help parents and community members become active participants in education. We also organize cultural exchange activities and awareness campaigns that highlight the importance of inclusivity and lifelong learning.
Our goal is to create communities that value education as a collective responsibility and a shared hope for a better future.
“Empowered communities create empowered learners.”
